In the blazing sun and sudden tropical downpours of Lahad Datu, Malaysia, a drainage project on the Pan Borneo Highway was racing against time. At the heart of this challenging site, the AIMIX AJ-90 stationary concrete batching plant proved to be the trusted engine driving quality, speed, and cost-efficiency.
Understanding the Project: Concrete Under Pressure
In July 2025, AIMIX successfully completed the installation and commissioning of the AJ90 stationary concrete plant for a highway subproject in Lahad Datu, Sabah, Malaysia. The batching plant was installed on-site to support concrete production for drainage systems (mainly water channels and roadside ditches) along the Pan Borneo Highway.
The project site was remote, with limited infrastructure and a tight deadline. A steady concrete supply was essential—not only for daily work, but also to keep the entire project on schedule.
Main Challenges: Cost, Quality, and Continuity
The client faced the main challenges as follows:
- Tight Schedule: The drainage work had to be completed within a fixed timeline to match the overall highway construction progress.
- Cost Control: The team needed a cost-effective concrete supply solution—avoiding the high price of commercial concrete transported from far away, and the high investment of large batching plants.
- Quality Assurance: The concrete used for the drainage needed to meet strength requirements, have good workability for easy pouring, look uniform, and perform well in hot, tropical weather.
- Continuous Supply: The drainage work required a steady, small-batch concrete supply with no interruptions.
The Solution: Why AIMIX AJ90 Batching Plant Was the Ideal Fit
The client first considered using a small mobile mixer (but it was inefficient with unstable quality), renting a large batching plant (too costly, slow to set up, and inflexible), or buying commercial concrete (high transport costs and risk of delivery delays). Each option had clear drawbacks and couldn’t fully meet the project’s needs.
After thorough market research and comparison, the client focused on our AJ-90 stationary plant—examining the manufacturing quality, technical specs, and proven success in similar Southeast Asian projects, and finally chose it based on the following key factors:
- Proven performance in Southeast Asia’s tropical conditions
- Stable output and automated control system, ensuring consistent concrete quality
- Favorable cost-performance ratio, compared to mobile mixers and RMC purchases
Our engineering team provided full support from installation to on-site training, ensuring the local team could operate the plant independently with confidence.

Outcome: Ahead of Schedule, Within Budget
The plant was installed and commissioned successfully, with local operators quickly adapting to its user-friendly interface. Early production tests showed reliable concrete quality, excellent workability, and continuous supply at optimal pace.
The AJ-90 plant is now ready for full production, and the client is considering reusing the equipment for upcoming municipal and small building projects in the region.
