Aimix supports a construction contractor in South Africa with our ABJZ40D electric concrete mixer pump tailored to meet their precise needs. Please go on reading for more details.
Client Requirements
The client needed two sets of specialized concrete pumping solution for an underground tunnel project characterized by exceptionally low headroom. They required a machine capable of consistently delivering at least 40 m³ of concrete per hour while fitting into the confined vertical space of the tunnel, which prevented the use of a standard material-feeding hopper.
Site Challenges
- Limited Headroom: The tunnel’s roof was lower than the height of a conventional concrete mixer pump’s material-feeding hopper, preventing the use of standard equipment.
- Restricted Access: Narrow tunnel width made delivery and positioning of large machinery difficult, ruling out traditional truck-mounted setups.
- Power and Efficiency: Remote underground locations often lack stable diesel supply, and continuous operation would incur high fuel costs.
Our Customized Solution
To address these challenges, we developed a modified version of our ABJZ40D concrete mixer pump:
- Belt Feeding System: We substituted the standard vertical hopper with a low-profile belt feeder. This redesign lowered the overall height of the pump, ensuring clearance under the tunnel roof.
- Performance Retention: Despite the size reduction, the modified ABJZ40D concrete mixing pump model maintained its high output capacity of 40 m³/h and delivered consistent pumping pressure suitable for deep concreting applications.

Shipment & Delivery
To safeguard the customized pump and its accessories during transportation:
- The two ABJZ40D units were positioned at the innermost end of each shipping container, minimizing shift during transit.
- All ancillary components were wrapped in plastic moisture-barrier bags and then boxed in cartons to prevent corrosion.
- Concrete delivery hoses and pumping tubes were coiled carefully and secured alongside the mixer pump to avoid kinking or damage.

Results & Benefits
- Safe Arrival: The electric pumps reached the South African site in perfect condition, thanks to meticulous packing and handling.
- Operational Efficiency: The electric motor eliminated fuel logistics, saving the contractor significant diesel cost every month.
- Site Compatibility: The lowered belt feeder design allowed seamless installation in the low-clearance tunnel, enabling continuous concreting without stoppages.
- Increased Productivity: With a steady 40 m³/h output, the contractor reported a 25% reduction in overall project timeline compared to previous methods.
The client praised Aimix tailored solution for its reliability, ease of use, and cost savings, expressing confidence in deploying our equipment for future underground projects.
