Understanding the working steps of the concrete pump will help you operate the concrete pump better and improve the efficiency.
Before understanding how a concrete pump works, I would like to give you a brief introduction to the working principle of the concrete pump, so that you can better understand the whole working process of the concrete pump.

The working principle of the concrete pump mainly relies on the pressure of the oil cylinder to transport the concrete continuously through the pipeline.
Take the piston concrete pump as an example, its hydraulic system pushes the piston to reciprocate movement through pressure.
- When the piston is pushed back, the concrete is drawn into the cylinder using the negative pressure generated.
- When the piston is pushed forward, the concrete is pushed into the distribution valve. The dispensing valve swings sequentially from side to side by means of a hydraulic pendulum valve cylinder and an electrical control, which is connected to the left or right cylinder port.
- When the distribution valve is connected to the cylinder port, the concrete in this cylinder is pushed out by the cylinder and passes through the distribution valve into the conveying pipeline, and is finally conveyed to the pouring point of the construction site.
Knowing the working principle of the concrete pump, then what is the working process of concrete pumps? I will use two videos to show the workflow of the trailer concrete pumps and concrete mixer pumps.
Demonstration of Two Concrete Pumps
Aimix Concrete pumps are mainly divided into trailer concrete pumps and concrete mixer pumps. Here is a picture video comparison of them.
Next, I will introduce its six steps one by one: preparing, connecting and testing, loading, pumping, delivering and placing, and cleaning. And I will also list the benefits of adhering to the working principle of concrete pump.
Preparing
Before starting the pumping operation, it is essential to conduct a thorough inspection of the concrete pump. This involves checking the condition of all components, including the hydraulic system, controls, and delivery pipes, to ensure they are in good working order.
The operator should also review the operating manual and safety guidelines to familiarize themselves with the equipment and its safe operation.
Connecting and Testing
The delivery pipes are connected to the concrete pump, ensuring tight and secure fittings to prevent leaks.
A test run is performed to check the functionality of the pump and the integrity of the pipe connections. This helps identify and rectify any potential issues before commencing the actual pumping operation.
Loading
Concrete is loaded into the pump’s hopper or reservoir, either directly from a mixer or by using a separate loading mechanism.
If necessary, water or additives may be introduced into the mix to achieve the desired consistency.

Pumping
Once the concrete is loaded and the system is ready, the pumping operation begins. The hydraulic system powers the pistons or rotors inside the pump, which push the concrete through the delivery pipes.
The operator monitors the flow rate and pressure, adjusting the settings as necessary to ensure smooth and efficient pumping.

Delivering and Placing
The concrete is pumped through the delivery pipes to the desired location, where it is poured or placed as required for the construction project.
The operator continuously observes the process to ensure accurate placement and consistency of the concrete.

Cleaning
Once the pumping operation is complete, cleaning the concrete pump is critical to extending the life of the trailer concrete pump and ensuring the quality and efficiency of the concrete delivery. So how do concrete pumps get cleaned , the following are several methods:
Water Washing Method
- Rinse the concrete pump pipe connections of the transfer pump with water.
- Open the vent hole above the pump tube and pour the water out of the pump body.
- Clean the pump body with a high-pressure water gun.
- After cleaning, drain the water out of the pump body to ensure that the pump body is dry.
Chemical Cleaning Method
- Clean concrete residue from the pump body.
- Add the chemical cleaner to the water and mix it in a certain proportion.
- Pour the cleaning solution into the pump body and let it mix well.
- After the cleaning solution stays for about 30 minutes, rinse it off with clean water.
- Drain the water from the pump body and make sure it is dry.
Mechanical Cleaning Method
- Clean concrete residue from the pump body.
- Insert the cleaning head of the mechanical cleaner into the pump body for cleaning.
- When cleaning is complete, remove the cleaning head and rinse the pump body with clean water.
- Make sure the pump body is dry.
Benefits of Complying With the Working Principle
Strict adherence to the working principle and correct operation of the concrete pump will bring many benefits, which I will list below:
Improving Work Efficiency
Operating a concrete pump correctly in accordance with the working principle ensures that it operates efficiently and reduces downtime, thus improving construction efficiency.
Ensuring Construction Safety
Following the working principle means operating the equipment in accordance with its design and safety standards, which helps to reduce operating errors and prevent equipment damage or personnel injury caused by incorrect operation.
Extending Equipment Life
Proper use and maintenance of concrete pumps can extend their service life, reduce wear and tear and damage, and reduce maintenance costs and the frequency of equipment replacement.
Ensuring Construction Quality
Operating according to the working principle can ensure the continuity and stability of concrete pumping, thus guaranteeing the quality of concrete pouring and reducing quality problems and safety hazards in construction.
Saving Energy and Reducing Emission
Optimized operation can reduce energy consumption and environmental pollution, in line with the concept of green construction and sustainable development.
Reducing Operation Cost
Through standardized operation, it can reduce the excessive wear and tear of equipment and maintenance cost, thus reducing the overall operation cost.
Enhancing Corporate Image
Strict adherence to the principle of work reflects the professionalism of the enterprise and the importance of production safety, which helps to enhance the corporate image and market competitiveness.
To sum up, by describing the working principle of portable concrete pumps, the working process and benefits of complying the working principle, this article aims to help you improve the efficiency of your construction work, extend the service life of your equipment and reduce construction costs.
